ISM is currently looking for talented staff in following areas:

  • Violin instructor (traditional)

  • Viola instructor

  • Cello instructor (traditional and Suzuki*)

  • Piano instructor (traditional, jazz and Suzuki*)

  • Guitar instructor (acoustic/electric, classical, jazz, & other styles )

  • Voice instructor

  • Flute instructor

  • Clarinet instructor

  • Saxophone instructor

  • Percussion/drums instructor

 

Status: Part-Time, one year’s contractual commitment required

 

Pay Rate/Salary: commensurate with experience and qualifications

 

Starting Date: accepting applications until positions are filled

 

Location: Bethesda, Maryland

 

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching private instruction to students of all ages and levels on a regularly scheduled basis.   Teaching hours include weekday afternoons, evenings and weekends.

  • Prepare students for exams, auditions, recitals, competitions…

  • Communicate effectively to coordinate attendance, music selection,…

  • Perform general faculty responsibilities according to the guideline, listed in the faculty handbook, including: attendance, teaching responsibilities, faculty meetings, faculty recitals…

  • Evaluate student’s work, performances.

  • Able to relate, and work well with students, colleagues, parents, and administration.

  • Love children, enjoy watching the learning process unfold and have an understanding of a child’s need to learn through all the senses. You must be patient, kind, and careful in guiding and directing the child’s music training in a nurturing atmosphere.

  • Keep abreast of developments in your field by reading current literature, participating in professional conferences, and be a member of professional music associations.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in applied music from an accredited institution with a major in the instrument you seek to teach. ISM generally gives preference to candidates with advanced degrees and teaching experience. Suzuki teachers need to have the  Suzuki certification.

  • Demonstrated success in private instruction at all levels and ages.

  • Knowledge of the music literature.

  • Preferred qualifications include evidence of success in recruiting and retaining students.

  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills.

  • Dedication to working in a collaborative professional environment in a reputable community music school.

  • Maintain an active solo/chamber career.

  • Organizational aptitude a plus.
